I photograph what most people walk past.

About

A designer’s eye
behind the lens.

I’m Aldo Podestá, a graphic designer and artistic photographer with more than forty years of experience shaping images — on the page and through the viewfinder.

Design taught me to see in lines, shapes, rhythm and contrast, and that is what I go looking for with a camera. A rusted latch on a shed door, cables tangled against the sky, the spokes of an old wheel, a gate at the end of a pier: ordinary things that, framed the right way, become something to stop and look at.

Most of my work is in black and white, which strips a scene back to form and light. Colour comes in when it is the subject.
